AUDIENCE RESEARCH

To collect audience research we collectively created a survey using 'www.surveymonkey.com'. This survey included a variety of questions to help us as a production company to decide what horror genre and conventions of horror we should use in our own completed work.

To get responses to our survey as a group we all used different methods to gain as many responses for our research to make it more representitve and give us a clearer insight into what would make our coursework sucessful.

ABBEY

I shared our survey on horror fan websites by placing the link in forums asking politley if they could take the time to complete our survey. I thought this would be an effective way of gathering relevant audience research as horror fans are our target audience who will have better knowledge of the horror genre and also the conventions involved within horror films. Therefore the responses from these audiences would be useful to us in order to produce effective coursework.

CONCLUSIONS WE HAVE DRAWN FROM AUDIENCE RESEARCH

CONCLUSION PARAGRAPH ONE:

The majority of responses we recieved were from females within the age group 15-18. I think it would therefore be sensible to make this our target audience. If we have a detailed insight into what young females already deand from horror films we may be able to cater to their expectations at a higher standard.

CONCLUSION PARAGRAPH TWO:

80.95% of our respondents are horror fans and most commonly watch horror films monthly or weekly. Therefore they will have a good knowledge/understanding of what they want to see whilst watching a horror film. As a result the research we have collected is valid and can give us a true insight into what concepts we should be incorporating into our own work.

CONCLUSION PARAGRAPH THREE:

In Question 10 our respondents voted for which horror film poster they found most appeaing as a horror fan. We found that the most popular poster was the 'Nightmare on Elm Street' poster. The reasoning behind this was because the dark lighting and colour scheme involving red gave the connotation of Danger and blood. These ideas create an image of horror that we can all recognise. I would therefore like to incorporate these conventions of the slasher sub-genre in order to make my work appeal to my audience.

CONCLUSION PARAGRAPH FOUR:

Also looking at question 10. A response to justification of why the respondent picked 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' poster was because it includes the most famous antagonist. This therefore means A Nightmare o Elm Steet is automatically appealing to an audience due to the creation of the antagonist.

I would therefore like to incorporate this into my work. I want to create a recognisable antagonist which will automatically appeal to audiences. E.g. Scream
